This was a very powerful book to read. I found it emotionally hard
but necessary to finish. The history and stories need to be told and shared.
This was a very powerful book to read. I found it emotionally hard
but necessary to finish. The history and stories need to be told and shared. The book is brutally honest and heartbreaking, but you can’t put it down. I’ve spoken to many other friends who had the same reaction. They read the first chapter and were drawn in completely. It’s a side of the slavery era that I did not know about, particularly the roles played by Canada, Great Britain and Africa. It was eye opening to see the involvement of other countries besides the United States––the lies, promises and betrayals on top of the devastating treatment of fellow human beings. No matter how painful the stories, a vein of personal strength and endurance ran throughout that was truly inspiring. I highly recommend this book.
