Rhino Ranch is vintage Larry McMurtry. In this novel, McMurtry returns to Thalia, Texas, as does Duane Moore, first introduced to readers in 1966 in The Last Picture Show.

Duane, recovering from a near-fatal heart attack, finds his life complicated by a quirky heiress who is creating a sanctuary to preserve the endangered black rhinoceros. Duane’s wife is in Europe with her latest lover, leaving Duane open for all sorts of things, including a flirtation with the heiress.

Larry McMurtry’s imagination knows no boundaries when it comes to crafting plots and creating characters. Cowboys turned Rhino Rangers, meth cookers, a lesbian psychiatrist, a Texas Ranger named Hondo Honda, a teenage sex kitten, assorted cowboys, a couple of chefs and a variety of other folks round out the cast of characters. Oh, yeah, and a rhino named Double Aught.

Larry McMurtry has written twenty-nine novels, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning Lonesome Dove, and was co-author of Brokeback Mountain.
